Caption: Young
somber girl
Technical data: Photo taken with handheld Nikon SLR film camera and
Nikkor 85mm f1.8 lens using existing daylight. Approximate exposure
1/500 second at f8.0 - Kodak T-Max 400 black & white film,
processed normally. No lens filters were used.
Film was scanned using a Nikon
Coolscan series film scanner. Photo file was routinely optimized using
Photoshop; levels and curves, sharpening, cropping and dust spot
removal using clone tool. I use a Mac for all photo processing.

Comments: This young girl is the most photogenic subject I can
remember. She could do no wrong especially when coaxed to show those
"big girl" looks such as this one.
Filming in the outdoor atrium of a
high school, I used the bright parking lot glare to light the scene.
The bare brick walls were perfect for background. The most challenging
part of this session was keeping the other two child models occupied
while I concentrated on my superstar. What did the trick was enlisting
their help as my photo assistants; they helped light-meter the shots
and took charge of my film supply.
