Caption: Two yearling Trakehner horses showing their stuff; Vermont, USA
Technical Data
Photo taken with a Nikon SLR film camera and Nikkor 180mm f2.8 lens; hand held, available light. Approximate exposure 1/1000 second at f8 - Kodak Tri-X black & white film, processed normally. No lens filters were used.
Film was scanned using a Nikon Coolscan series film scanner. Photo file was routinely optimized using Photoshop; levels and curves, sharpening, cropping and dust spot removal using clone tool. I use a Mac for all photo processing.
Comments
Usually I set up a tripod whenever possible to avoid camera shake but these young frisky Trakehners had me hopping. So I hand-held the camera and used a high shutter speed instead. Exposure was slightly increased to bring out detail in the darker horse. A side benefit of the increased exposure was the soft silvery tones of the grass and tree foliage.
