Technical data: Hand held Olympus SLR film camera and Zuiko 85mm f2.0 lens using existing daylight; in-camera spot metering and hand-held light meter, manual camera exposure mode. Approximate exposure 1/250 second at f16 - Kodak T-Max 400 black and white film exposed at EI 800 and processed normally without a push. No lens filters were used. Film was scanned using a Nikon Coolscan series film scanner. Photo file was routinely optimized with Photoshop on a Mac.

Comments: This was an awful filming session with tired, cranky subjects who showed up late and moped around like little children. After a wasted hour or two I couldn't contain myself and started barking orders which seemed to wake everyone up a little.

Eventually we progressed on to make some fairly good photos, like this one with its ambiguous tone.

I used a very small lens aperture for this photo because of the high magnification and huge depth of field I needed - I was attempting to keep a nearly 12 inch zone in focus which was nearly impossible, even at f16. I focused on the girl's ear and hoped for the best. It worked well enough; the white girl's face is sharp and black girl's face is only slightly softened.  HC
