Technical data: Photo taken with an Olympus Stylus Epic point and shoot film camera; hand held, available light. Approximate exposure 1/250 second at f8 - Fuji Sensia 100 transparency film. No lens filters were used. Film was scanned using a Minolta Dimage series film scanner. Photo file was routinely optimized with Photoshop on a Mac.

Comments: While walking around this wooded area looking for a good photo location I made several grab shots with a small point and shoot camera. Later on I made several other attempts with "better" equipment but this point and shoot picture was one of the best picks.

I always carry at least one point and shoot camera with me and this picture reminds me why that's so important. This photo could have been made with a heavy professional SLR camera but I'm not inclined to lug one around all the time. But it's a no-brainer to tuck a nice small P&S camera in a pocket: they're light, easy to use and make technically superb photos. Getting the photo at all is always better than wishing you'd brought the "big camera" and gotten nothing. HC
