Technical data: Photo taken with hand held Olympus SLR film camera, manual exposure mode, Zuiko 85mm f2 lens, available light. Approximate exposure 1/125 second at f5.6 with Kodak T-Max 400 rated at EI 800 and processsed normally. No lens filters were used. Film was scanned using a Nikon Coolscan series film scanner. Photo file was routinely optimized with Photoshop on a Mac.

Comments: This photo was made in an elementary school music classroom just after a class. The room was a photographic nightmare of messy desks, jumbled chairs, stray papers and children darting wildly around. I had already chosen this child as my subject so I moved myself to show as clean a background as possible, crossed my fingers and made several exposures using a high speed motor drive.

Using a noisy motor drive is not my usual MO for a school classroom; certainly not during a class. But the loud chaos right after dismissal more than masks the loudest of motor drives. I doubt I could have gotten this picture without the eighteen frames I stole in barely three seconds. HC
