Usually I have my cameras in manual exposure mode so I habitually adjust their exposure settings to changing conditions, whether I'm planning a picture or not. Naturally this makes it easier to act fast, but also, by constantly evaluating and setting the camera exposure I stay more engaged with my surroundings and much more likely to anticipate a picture.
