Technical data: Photo taken with Olympus SLR film camera and Zuiko 180mm f2.8 lens; hand held, available light. Approximate exposure 1/1000 second at f8 - Kodak T-Max 400 black and white film processed normally. No lens filters were used. Film was scanned using a Nikon Coolscan series film scanner. Photo file was routinely optimized with Photoshop on a Mac.

Comments: The combination of strong side-light, dark background and intensely engaged children made this an easy picture to make. I used a longish fixed telephoto lens to isolate the action.

I placed the man at left on the picture's edge to draw attention to him - and made sure the children's parents knew beforehand that I was just a harmless photographer. HC
